This ones a "Keeper"..This portrait was done on a pretty good size canvas..It worked out nice because I had to put a horse and a woman on the same board. Usually when you do portraits you try and get as much detail as possible and the bigger the canvas the better. Unfortunately the price goes up acording on how big it is and the number of subjects in the art. This particular piece was done for an aniversary. The lady in the art is giving this to her husband and the horse belongs to them as well so it's kinda like a family portrait..Bellow you will see the art in steps as I did it...Enjoy
I started off with making the background black and putting the solid flesh tone down on the lady.....
Here I filled in the hair color on the lady and horse as well as adding the tones with black to the horse. The background is now solid black
I put the brown shadows in the ladys skin as well as brown streaks through her hair. I also added white streaks through the horses hair but you can hardly see it in this photo.
At this point you start to see it coming together. I added the white highlights to her hair and painted her shirt blue. I also put some black shading around her face to bring out the shadows.
Well..it's done, the last thing I did was the clouds in the dark sky and added some stars around the art. Notice the little flowers on the blue shirt...I think it turned out really well and I hope the next one I do belongs to you...........
